Album Review: Blessed Child of God (BCOG)

Finish What You Started is BCOG's latest album drop in the genre of Christian Hop Hop and Rap and it bumps with both beat and lyrics.

It's a pretty straightforward mix as far as music goes but the spirit behind the lyrics in songs such as, Save Me, and others are pure testimonial dope. No sitting on the secular fence when it comes to BCOG's sound.

Church Boi'z is another straight-from-the-soul song that gives it up for God in the communion of the Spirit along with rapper, King Dame. The duo smacks down in old school fashion to tell it like it as born again believers, referring briefly to the sinful life as the former Old Man but now joining with other believers in praise.

As you move down the track list of this album, Cover Me in the Blood, comes off exactly as the title sounds--a continual prayer and plea for Jesus to keep pouring out his tender mercies as promised in the Word.

The next song, Fly Away, adds some female vocals and might be the best sound on this collection both in mix and in melody. The bump is still there but it's subdued by the longing cry to be released from the earthly shackles all Christians are burdened with in this passing world.

The final track, Hold On, blends a personal response of thanks to a loved one's life lost but it's not funereal in tone. It's a dedication and celebration of a life passed on to heaven and a waiting rhythm  that breaks with prayer:

Take me somewhere far away from here...

All in all, Finish What You Started, is a decent drop worth listening to and the lyrics will encourage and build up your Christian faith with frequent references to Scripture mixed with personal testimony and supplication to the King of Kings. I can't say for sure, but I'll bet Christ Almighty would give an approving nod to BCOG on this one.
