Gospel or Gravy?

And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also" - Acts 17:6

As you know, Paul and his missionary band were creating quite a stir preaching the gospel to the Gentiles. It was a radical message amped with special effects added by the Holy Ghost--a road tour unlike the world had ever seen nor will probably ever see again.

If we as Christian musicians claim to be spreading the gospel, are we 'turning the world upside down' also? I have to ask because I don't read anywhere in my Bible where it says Christianity is supposed to be popular to the world. Now I'm not talking about ministering to the saints which Hebrews clearly states is a worthwhile occupation and duty of all believers, but the gospel message (if it is preached properly) was never meant to win a Dove Award.

My point in saying all this is that some musicians and some churches have become so concerned with image and collecting followers (myself included) that we forget that it is God who saves through the sacrifice of His son, CHRIST JESUS, and it is the Holy Ghost which convicts and leads sinner to repentance. You don't hear many songs like that for obvious reasons. 99% of the world probably wouldn't stream salvation on Spotify.

So if you're saying that you spread the gospel through your music, check yourself. Sure, God works in mysterious ways and I've heard testimonies from people who were saved at Christian music concerts, but there are gifts clearly outlined in order of importance by the Apostle Paul in the first letter to the Corinthians. Sorry. But I don't see musicians on that list. Yet rejoice for your name is written in the Book of Life and that is definitely worth singing about to those have ears to hear.

A Song of Thanksgiving
