Raise hell, praise God

 [This is another segment in the Music in the Bible series which begins in Genesis and finishes in Revelation.]

The Song of Deborah

 Then Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang on that day, saying:

 “When leaders lead in Israel,

When the people willingly offer themselves,

Bless the Lord!

 “Hear, O kings! Give ear, O princes!

I, even I, will sing to the Lord;

I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel. (Judges 5:1-12)

Female warrior medieval fantasy

Some say that female warriors can be more deadly than their male counterparts because the prospect of falling captive into enemy hands is unthinkable. The story of Deborah the Prophetess Warrior recorded in the Scripture certainly has some brutal elements in it and her victory song praising Yahweh is fearsome. You can read it in its entirety in Judges 5.

One of the most bloody details from the lengthy song can be found in  verses 24-27 where the enemy general seeks aid and comfort from a woman named, Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite, who serves up the soldier a tent stake through his temple, shattering his skull and causing instant death. I'll just bet she came on as sweet and friendly before the kill shot to the head. So it's kind of a Samson and Delilah story but in reverse because the female is being used for God's purposes this time. It's a remix that I like and a digital remaster by some inspired artist would be very cool to see it brought to life in a contemporary music video.
