Moses the Singer/Songwriter: Take 10

[This is another segment in the Music in the Bible series which begins in Genesis and finishes in Revelation.]

“Now therefore, write down this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Israel; put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for Me against the children of Israel.  When I have brought them to the land flowing with milk and honey, of which I swore to their fathers, and they have eaten and filled themselves and grown fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them; and they will provoke Me and break My covenant.  Then it shall be, when many evils and troubles have come upon them, that this song will testify against them as a witness; for it will not be forgotten in the mouths of their descendants, for I know the inclination of their behavior today, even before I have brought them to the land of which I swore to give them.”

Therefore Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel. (Deuteronomy 31:19-32:44)

God gives Moses another song that will be a big hit for the crowd. Or will it? If you follow the link above to the Scripture, you will see that there are words of condemnation as well as of praise in the lyrics. It's almost like a typical love song by someone who can't live with or without the object of his/her desire and both reminds and reprimands because of unrequited love. After all, Yahweh is a person--one of three in the Holy Trinity of the blessed Godhead. Christ Jesus and the Spirit being the other two who are co-equal and co-eternal. This mystery is not to be understood but received and believed as are many of God's revelations in the Bible.

Memorable songs create 'ear worms' that stay with the listener for indefinite periods of time susceptible to our human limitations but the songs and words of our Lord will remain forever. (Matthew 24:35) When you hear a song that reminds you of someone or something in your past (either good or bad), you can be sure that this ability is God given and exists for a reason. Singer/songwriters inherently know this and strive to create melodies and lyrics that will stand the test of time. Many do for awhile, perhaps even for centuries, but the Song of our Lord endures throughout the ages because He, via His chosen vessels and the power of the Holy Spirit, cannot be diminished. God's song is always written in a major key so let your life be a symphony for His glory.
