Moses the Maestro:Take 3

Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying, “I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. (Exodus 15:1)

Happy people like to sing. This you know. And the Israelites at this point were exceedingly joyful because Yahweh parted the Red Sea so they could walk on dry land through it and escape the pursuing Egyptian army. When the attackers tried to follow along the same path of the redeemed, God let the waters loose and they all drowned with their horses and were buried in a watery grave. Safe on dry land, the people of the Lord were given a song to sing by their leader, Moses. So in effect, he was the very first choirmaster mentioned in the Bible and his song of praise was typical of the song sung to commemorate mighty acts of valor by extraordinary warriors of ancient times. But what's often overlooked in this chapter is the backup female vocals he gets from his brother Aaron's wife, Miriam which are scripted immediately after Moses' stunning song and performance beginning at Exodus 15: 20-21:

Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing.

And Miriam sang to them: “Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.”

It was probably the first outdoor concert ever recorded and instead of sex, drugs and rock n roll being celebrated like at Woodstock or Hyde Park in London, this show was all for God's glory and would resound throughout the ages as a tribute to the marvelous workings of a Savior who delivers His chosen people from destruction and I'm down with that.
