Let's face it. You have to have deep pockets or know somebody who does and who will support you if you want to promote your music to the world. If you are happy just singing around the camp fire, then you can stop reading now and check out some features I've done on independent Christian musicians here, here and here or check out some album reviews I've written for this blog here. Otherwise, read on.
When I started on this music production, promoting and blogging journey not too long ago, I met some local musicians practicing Christian songs in the guitar shop where I go to waste time and money. So I chatted them up a bit and asked them if they liked to 'mix and drop' music and they looked at me like I was from outer space. "Nah," said Clive, lead singer for the Montana country gospel band, Dust Alive, "we just sell our CD's at live gigs and do pretty good with that."
So like a newbie imagining world domination at the digital level with my new band, Patient Chill's EP, which is currently receiving extend play on two FM stations in Europe, I had to confess that there are a lot of unscrupulous players in the field who will nickel and dime you to death. No great secret there but just a shattering of adult child delusions of some kind of stardom. Still, I believe with God all things are possible as Jesus said, and the banger single off our debut EP is a real crowd pleaser and offers hope for the coming kingdom in snappy Christian nu pop fashion.
If this is all really some sort of angle on a fun ministry and I am able to keep any kind of foolish pride in check, maybe God will honor our efforts and provide us with the means to continue on this exciting musical journey where I am learning new things everyday, especially through a blog series which I just started that traces the beginnings and use of music through the Bible from Genesis through Revelation. But calm is required because there is always a Judas lurking nearby or a Simon Magus in it for the bling. Lord help me from becoming one but somehow I feel that won't be an issue at my age.
