I praise the Lord for breaking me in the valley of repentance for over a decade (stubborn sinner that I am) and leading me to greener pastures and prairies here in the beautiful Treasure State of Montana where I have been thriving and growing in grace daily according to the measure of Christ's Spirit. I used to write novels, pretty much for self therapy and fun, and I was told by some famous writers that I was super at my craft. But those were days B.C. (Before Christ) and not all of what I wrote was family friendly. But I've been praying diligently for the Lord to let me use those talents in that particular way again in a more wholesome manner since He gifted me in the first place. Last week, a major publisher saw my profile on a freelance site and reached out and offered me a gig to write historical Western novels that were family friendly and non explicit so I jumped on the opportunity and they are signing me and training me to do contract work right now. I fall on my face before the God of glory and give thanks to the Creator for keeping His promises to restore us again to life everlasting and blessings according to His will and purpose. I am encouraged to write freely about Christianity in my novels and how it shaped the so-called 'Code of the West' and incorporate into my story telling. It's been a great experience making music for the Lord but I'm returning now to my true calling and I pray that through this method of communication many souls will be blessed (along with my dwindling bank account :) Here is what they sent me for moral guidelines concerning the novels I will soon be writing:
The "Code of the West" was an unwritten, socially agreed upon set of informal laws shaping the cowboy culture of the Old West. Over time, the cowboys developed a personal culture of their own, a blend of values that even retained vestiges of chivalry. Such hazardous work in isolated conditions also bred a tradition of self-dependence and individualism, with great value put on personal honesty, exemplified in songs and cowboy poetry.
1) Live each day with courage. 2) Take pride in your work. 3) Always finish what you start. 4) Do what has to be done. 5) Be tough, but fair. 6) When you make a promise, keep it. 7) Ride for the brand. 8) Talk less and say more. 9) Remember that some things aren't for sale. 10 ) Know where to draw the line.
There is also a segment in the instructions about "Old Testament justice" which I think is very cool because God is a god of Righteousness as those of us who know Him and who know our bibles can testify. So I'm looking forward to breaking camp, pardner, and hitting the dusty trail with tales of romance and bravado. And now I finally see why the Lord led me to Montana a few years ago. It's the perfect environment to gather research and inspiration from. Wait upon Him and He will deliver in a timely fashion and all the colors will bleed into one when the King returns.
He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me -- Psalm 18:19
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope -- Jeremiah 29:11 |
